The story of Dr. Rodrigo Barbosa, a specialist in <\/span>Bariatric Surgery<\/span>His career began in the small town of Arapiraca, Alagoas, where he was born. In 2012, after graduating from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Para\u00edba (FCMPB), the doctor decided to move to S\u00e3o Paulo, where he began his medical internship at the S\u00edrio Liban\u00eas Hospital. <\/span><\/p>\n

This was the first step towards improving his knowledge even further. Still in S\u00e3o Paulo, Dr. Rodrigo Barbosa did medical specializations at nationally recognized foundations, such as Santa Casa de Miseric\u00f3rdia de S\u00e3o Paulo and Faculdade de Medicina do ABC (FMABC). <\/span><\/p>\n

Another achievement for his extensive CV is having completed subspecialization in <\/span>Coloproctology <\/span> by the S\u00edrio Liban\u00eas Hospital. It was also at <\/span>renowned hospital<\/span> that he was able to join the clinical research course at Harvard Medical School (HMS). <\/span> <\/p>\n

During the time he spent studying abroad, Dr. Rodrigo Barbosa kept up to date with the latest treatments and the best results. When he returned to Brazil, he brought with him different methods for treating pilonidal disease and orificial diseases such as fissures, fistulas and hemorrhoids. <\/span><\/p>\n

Among the many courses he took during his time in the United States and Europe, he dedicated himself to <\/span>dedicated himself to studying the best techniques for treating <\/span>Inflammatory Bowel Diseases<\/span> (IBD). Specialization in <\/b>Bariatric Surgery<\/b><\/h2>\n

Dr. Rodrigo Barbosa graduated from the<\/span> traditional S\u00e3o Paulo schools of Santa Casa de Miseric\u00f3rdia de S\u00e3o Paulo and Faculdade de Medicina do ABC (FCMPB), both of which are <\/span>in the ranking <\/span>of the three best surgical schools in the country. <\/span>It was at these schools that, from an early age, he had contact with<\/span> with <\/span>bariatric surgery<\/span>at a time when surgery was performed by laparotomy (open surgeries) by the SUS.<\/span><\/p>\n

He gradually evolved in his career after participating in large teams in S\u00e3o Paulo in advanced videolaparoscopic surgery and continued to improve, attending courses in the United States (NYU), Madrid, among many others in Brazil. <\/span><\/p>\n

He joined the Brazilian Society of <\/span>Bariatric Surgery <\/span> and Metabolic Surgery (SBCBM) and brought innovations in the field, learned in courses abroad, to treat obesity. One of these innovations was the combination of the Sleeve technique (vertical gastrectomy) with the creation of anti-reflux valves, in order to reduce complications in this type of surgery. <\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, in Dr. Rodrigo’s own words:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>I strongly believe that obesity is too complex a disease to be underestimated, or summed up, as many people say, as “a lack of shame”, “just shut your mouth”, or “go and train, you don’t need surgery or medicine”. We need to understand that obesity comes from culture, upbringing, genetics, habits, metabolism and much more… Each patient has a special detail, that extra something that we need to address in this immense complexity that is this illness. So I feel fulfilled when I can help someone transform their life. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Specializations in minimally invasive techniques<\/b><\/h2>\n

Dr. Rodrigo Barbosa has become known for treating different diseases in <\/span>coloproctology<\/span>. He is a pioneer in the use of minimally invasive techniques to treat pilonidal disease, hemorrhoidal disease, anal fissures and fistulas.<\/span><\/p>\n

By combining these techniques, Dr. Rodrigo Barbosa contributed to the development of LEPSiT (Laser Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Treatment), which later became a popular approach. This innovative approach helped reduce the risk of recurrence of the disease. In addition, he shared his knowledge by giving several classes and lectures on the subject. <\/span><\/p>\n
